Tom and guests trade insight and anecdotes, explore day-to-day topics and tackle the hard subjects, all with equal measures of energy, honesty, and laughter. Get the skinny on the real people behind the headlines, straight from the horse’s mouth.
What is the key to your company’s success?
I had to learn to put myself out there and say this is who I am and be my best version of myself but also be super authentic and connect an authentic way to people. One of the things I learned is that it’s really not about impressing people, it’s about asking questions and being interested in who they are.
It’s important to take a step back sometimes and know your limits. I help blue-collar workers and truckers with their digital media presence, I find that my past experience in sports is often a good icebreaker for those conversations. Finding the common ground between me and a potential customer has been great for my growth. Using past experiences can be incredibly useful.
What are your thoughts on the business side of sports?
I always found as much interest sometimes, if not more, in the business of sports. Especially regarding the sponsorship deals, the behind the scenes stuff, the negotiations, etc. I think I’ve read more issues of Sports Business Journal than I have Sports Illustrated. It’s all about making the sponsorships right and engaging with the fan base so the games are fun.
