Welcome to “The Horse’s Mouth” with Tom McManus, a unique talk show where guests belly up to the bar to discuss business, marketing, and life. No gossip, no hearsay, no BS, just the straight-up truth, right from the source.
Tom’s longtime love of bartending has come full circle since his days as a linebacker on the inaugural Jacksonville Jaguars football team—slinging drinks and talking shop with everyone from high-profile sports figures and entertainers to business leaders, journalists, and community leaders. Tom and guests trade insight and anecdotes, explore day-to-day topics and tackle the hard subjects, all with equal measures of energy, honesty, and laughter. Get the skinny on the real people behind the headlines, straight from the horse’s mouth.
How do you get your media as a consumer?
I work with social media and getting our message out there all day, so I don’t want to touch that when I get home. I tend to gravitate towards niche things like Reddit. I actually find good news and things on Reddit and I like to subscribe to things I’m very interested in.
I am a Twitter consumer. I don’t tweet, but I like to look at the feeds. I think it’s the fact that it’s quick and easy. There’s so much data that comes in. I don’t have the time to stop and watch TV. I’m always on the run. I love Twitter.
You know, I’m kind of old school. I really like LinkedIn. I watch local news, and I have satellite radio in my car. I’ve got an iPad so some digital gets through as well.
How do you quantify a radio endorsement from a return on that investment?
For me, it comes down to Google. I’m a believer in that because it’s the difference between interruption marketing and targeted marketing. When you’re watching your favorite show and a commercial comes out, it’s like, “Buy my product! Buy it now!” I am going to go with what I want on my computer and target those people with ads.
